All subscription payment issues for ScoutPal subscriptions are handled securely by PayPal. Once you have started your subscription, PayPal will automatically renew it for you on the date that it is due, monthly or quarterly.  Warning:  If you login to your PayPal account and delete a card or bank account that's being used for your ScoutPal subscription, PayPal will cancel your subscription. PayPal may also cancel a subscription if the credit card expires or is not updated in the specific sequence that PayPal requires. PayPal gives warning of this, but it is in small type and easy to overlook.

If your subscription has been cancelled, either specifically by you, or by PayPal, and you wish to use ScoutPal again, then you will need to start a new subscription.

How to:

  1. Start a New Subscription
  2. Add a New Funding Source in PayPal
  3. Change Your Subscription's Funding Source
  4. Change Your Subscription's Billing Cycle
  5. Cancel Your Subscription

(What to do if you received a "Payment Failed" notice from PayPal)

How to Start a New Subscription: [back to top]
After any cancellation, your ScoutPal account ID and password remain in the system, but you will no longer be able to do lookups.
Start a New Subscription by following these steps:

  • On your computer, go to ScoutPal.com.

  • Login with your Scoutpal ID and password. (The login is on the upper right side of the page.)

  • After login, you will see a "Services for ScoutPal Users" menu.

  • Click on the "Subscription Services" button.

  • Click the "Continue" button on the Update Subscription page, which will bring up your ScoutPal Registration Update Form.

  • Take a moment to review and correct any contact information on the form, as necessary.

  • Click on the "Start a Paid Subscription" button at the bottom of the Registration Update Form.

  • On the next page, choose "Monthly" or "Quarterly" billing.

  • You will now be redirected to PayPal to complete your subscription. (You will need to contact PayPal if you have forgotten your PayPal account login.)

  • If there is an overlap in payment between your old and new subscription, simply send us an email with your ScoutPal ID after you start the new subscription, and we will refund the difference.

How to Add a New Funding Source in PayPal: [back to top]
If you want to use a new funding source for your subscription, login to PayPal, then ADD the new credit card or bank account to your PayPal account, then CHANGE the funding source shown on the ScoutPal subscription record (see below) to use the new card/account.  You can then delete the old credit card or account if you wish.  You must follow these steps in this exact order, or PayPal will cancel your subscription.  [Learn More]

How to Change Your Subscription's Funding Source: [back to top]
To change the method of payment (credit card, instant transfer, eCheck, etc.) used by PayPal for subscription payments:

  • Login to your PayPal account.

  • Click on "History" to find one of the payments made to ScoutPal.

  • Click on "Details" to open the payment Transaction Details record.

  • There will be a link at the top of the Transaction page, labeled "In reference to:"

  • Click on the "In reference to", this will open a Subscription Details page.

  • Scroll down to the "Subscription Funding Source" section, where you can select any of the funding sources that you currently have established with your PayPal account to be used for future ScoutPal subscription payments.

How to Change Your Subscription's Billing Cycle: [back to top]
PayPal does not provide a way to change between monthly and quarterly billing.  The only way to do this is to cancel your current subscription from within PayPal, and then start a new subscription on a different billing basis.  Check your past subscription payments to determine the next renewal date; you will want to do this on the day before the next renewal.

How to Cancel Your Subscription: [back to top]

  • Login to your PayPal account: Click here to open PayPal in a new window.

  • Click the "Cancel Subscription" button at the bottom of the Subscription Details page.

BEFORE YOU CANCEL: Be sure to check out ScoutPalDB: Instant lookups with a Pocket PC database. Use of ScoutPalDB is included with your current ScoutPal subscription at no additional charge!

What to do if you received a "Payment Failed" notice from PayPal: [back to top]
PayPal will retry two more times before canceling your subscription, giving you enough time to login to PayPal to rectify the funding source for the subscription.  The problem is usually simply that the expiration date needs to be updated for one of the credit cards you have on file in your PayPal account.
